Lower School Teacher

St. Timothy’s School, an Episcopal preparatory school in Raleigh, NC, with approximately 560 students in grades Pre-K to 8, anticipates one or more openings for a Lower School Teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year.

A Lower School Teacher is a full-time position, teaching students in one Lower School grade-level that may range from pre-k through fourth grade.  Duties begin in August 2025.

A St. Timothy’s Lower School Teacher will:

  • Display a strong knowledge of developmental stages, differentiation and inquiry-based learning, and have familiarity with appropriate developmental educational programs.
  • Collaborate and plan lessons/curriculum in a two- or three-teacher grade level team, overseen by the Lower School Head.
  • Create a supportive and caring classroom environment in which students can learn and interact positively with one another through student-centered instruction, collaboration, imaginative play, hands-on learning, and authentic skills-based assessment.
  • Bring innovation and creativity to the classroom.
  • Be comfortable with integrating technology into the curriculum, collaborating with colleagues and working with children.
  • Display excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to create and maintain accurate student records.
  • Demonstrate high energy and commitment to professional development, staying current on research in education, independent schools and child development.

In addition, candidates should not only have excellent teaching and interpersonal skills, but also possess a deep understanding of developmentally-appropriate curriculum, a passion for working with young students, and a desire to collaborate with other educators.  All candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate/relevant educational field.

The most competitive candidates will meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a master’s degree in an appropriate/relevant educational field
  • Have at least 3-5 years teaching experience in the grade level of the available position
  • Have training and successful prior teaching experience with a reading program founded on Science of Reading research, fundamentals of teaching math, and differentiated instruction
