Senior Financial Analyst

The Finance Department provides vital services to internal employees, program participants, outside investors, and a wide array of other stakeholders. The Financial Planning and Analysis team adds value to KCHA by providing leadership with essential budgeting knowledge and experience endeavored to support strategic operating decisions.

The Senior Financial Analyst is an important member of the finance team. The position will be responsible for budgeting and financial analysis as well as reporting. The incumbent will participate in all financial planning activities of the agency and will work closely with different department leaders to provide consultative analysis and reporting. They will also contribute to process improvement efforts and other key initiatives in support of KCHA’s mission.

Essential Functions

 

The Senior Financial Analyst:

  • Facilitates the submission of annual operating and capital budgets with department directors; reviews and evaluates departmental requests.
  • Prepares complex worksheets and presentations for budgeting and reporting in accordance with office procedures and policies; examines existing worksheets for opportunities to amend and improve.
  • Manages monthly review process of the budget to actual financial performance to provide analysis and identify trends and to supply variance narratives for quarterly financial reporting; provides finance support to department directors.
  • Produces continuous reporting to support departmental goals and initiatives; develops and monitors recurring and ad-hoc journal entries and financial transactions for accuracy.
  • Maintains and tests accounting system; ensures that changes are reflected in budgeting interfaces.
  • Provides ad-hoc detailed analysis, financial understanding and forecasting to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of overall business decisions.
  • Documents budget and other departmental processes by creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures.

 

Qualifications and Competencies

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree accounting, business administration, economics, or related field AND
  • Considerable experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, financial planning and analysis OR
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
 

  • Understands technical aspects of the position and continuously builds knowledge, keeping up to date on the substantive and procedural aspects of the position including:
    • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting principles, and internal controls.
    • accounting functions including financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and banking/treasury.
    • ability to utilize automated budgeting systems such as an ERP and VENA.
    • skill in financial planning, budgeting, variance analysis, and technical writing.
    • ability to plan, develop, manage and control budgeting activities related to staffing and operational budgets.
    • evaluate complex financial systems and efficiently formulate and install accounting methods, procedures, forms and records.
  • Exercises sound judgment in analyzing situations and in reaching decisions quickly.
  • Establishes and nurtures relationships with stakeholders, regularly inviting feedback and suggestions; ability to work cooperatively with and offer assistance to others.
  • Values diversity and possesses an understanding of multicultural and cultural competencies; ability to work effectively and positively with individuals of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Clearly and effectively communicates both verbally and in writing by actively listening and sharing relevant information.
    • Ability to present reports and recommendations clearly and logically.
    • ability to understand, interpret, explain and apply policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency using MS Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, database software, and other analytical software programs.

Salary & Benefits: 
The starting salary range for this position is $87,156.10 - $106,767.20 annually, dependent on qualifications and professional experience. The complete salary range for this position is $87,156.10 - $126,377.14 annually. Performance-based merit increase opportunities and Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA) are reviewed annually. After initial onboarding, this role will have the opportunity to work remotely up to 80% in accordance with the KCHA's flexible work arrangements; however, remote work conditions will be reviewed on a regular basis based on business and program need. Employees must reside in Washington State and having the ability to report to the Central Office in Tukwila will be required. Some local travel may be required to support KCHA business needs.
