The Investment Technology & Performance (ITP) group within the Investment Office (INVO) is responsible for overseeing data and technology used to manage the Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) and Affiliate Funds, and drive our CalPERS mission. The team is currently seeking six (6) Associate Investment Managers (AIM) to be dedicated to our Investment Data and Technology Modernization Initiative, acting as subject matter experts and investment technology leads, representing one of the following teams:
- Private Markets Technology
- Capital Markets Technology
- Total Fund Technology
- Business Architecture - Investment Data
- Business Architecture - Technology Infrastructure
- Strategy Projects and Incident Management
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- The Private Markets Technology AIM will oversee private markets investment technology transformation, including portfolio management systems, and pre- and post-investment tools.
- The Capital Markets Technology AIM will oversee capital markets technology transformation, including trading platforms, and portfolio management systems transition to a new platform.
- The Total Fund Technology AIM will oversee total fund portfolio management technology transformation, including multi-asset system integration, and investment platform implementation.
- The Business Architecture - Investment Data AIM will oversee investment platform architecture, including investment data platform implementation, and investment data modernization.
- The Business Architecture - Tech Infrastructure AIM will oversee investment platform infrastructure, including investment system integration, APIs, and cloud technology.
- The Strategic Projects and Incident Management AIM will oversee the investment portfolio of projects, including project intake process, change management, and investment technology incident management and business continuity.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist in the design, assessment, enhancement, and on-going oversight of the technical solutions, technology processes, control framework, and services needed to efficiently manage the end-to-end investment technology platform
- Optimize operational processes and systems
- Oversee and coordinate with external technology service providers
- Create and/or maintain procedures and controls to implement new investment technology platforms
- Oversee the production environments for all investment technology solutions
- Model business and/or data architectures
Telework Information: This position is eligible for hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

This position is eligible for annual and long-term incentive awards. The annual incentive opportunity is 0-60% of salary and is based on the level of achievement against several quantitative and qualitative measures. The long-term incentive program provides an additional opportunity of 40-60% of base salary beginning after five years and when absolute total fund returns meet or exceed board-approved thresholds.

Desirable Qualifications

- Experience in asset management or pension fund industry
- Experience in large investment technology and process implementations
- Experience analyzing investment technology products, tools, and technologies
- Experience in analyzing business requirements and developing technical specifications for investment systems
- Experience with utilization of Investment/Accounting Books of Record
- Experience in change management
- Knowledge of investment strategies and security types
- Knowledge of vendor management practices
- Understanding of formal and agile project management approaches
- Flexibility to handle new functionality and learn new skills to support investment strategies or products
- Ability to interact effectively with senior portfolio managers to evaluate, design and implement technology solutions
- Ability to communicate complex subjects effectively
- Ability to define and oversee technology and process improvements as needed
- Advanced degree or certification preferable (e.g. CFA, MBA, CPA, Investment Foundations, Comp. Sci.)
