HourlyA. POSITION PURPOSE

 

Provide research support, as well as administrative and strategic planning, for activities in the research group of the faculty supervisor (Professor On Shun Pak) at Santa Clara University

 

B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


 

1.Conduct research projects and support research development

 

Lead and conduct research assigned by the faculty supervisor to a high standard that leads to publications in peer-reviewed journals

 

Lead the design and execution of research programs, including the development of proposals for external funding

 

Manage, mentor, and supervise students and junior researchers in the research group

 

Disseminate research findings through publication, presentations, and conferences

 

Oversee lab management, including administrative and strategic planning tasks to support the research program's growth and efficiency

 

2. Other duties as assigned.


 

C. PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION

 

Manage, mentor, and supervise undergraduate and graduate students and research associates in Professor On Shun Pak's research group

 

D. GENERAL GUIDELINES

Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve research quality. Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices. Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives. Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow. Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions. Prepares and submits reports as requested and required. Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.


 

E. QUALIFICATIONS


 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The items below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience required or preferred.

 

This position requires the ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.

 

1. Knowledge

Knowledge in fluid mechanics, microhydrodynamics, and soft matter physics.

 

2. Skills

Theoretical and/or computational skills in fluid mechanics, microhydrodynamics and soft matter physics.

 

3. Abilities

Perform research in fluid mechanics and soft matter physics.

 

4. Education

Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or closely related fields

 

5. Years of Experience

A minimum of two years of postdoctoral research experience is required.
