Position Summary: The teacher of the visually impaired will deliver special education services based on an appropriate IEP/IFSP for students with visual impairment. The teacher is responsible for delivering academic programs that will lead to student achievement. The teacher is responsible for needed assessment, diagnostic, and due process services as required by federal and state standards.
Responsibilities:
● Provide direct instruction and monitor progress to visually impaired students (birth through 21) in the Zumbro Education District. ● Consult with IEP/IFSP managers, teachers, and district administration regarding procedures in assessment, services, and programming for visually impaired students. ● Facilitate parent participation in child's program by providing information, training, and support. ● Promote involvement with community resources to provide comprehensive programs for visually impaired students and their families. Specific Duties: ● Assist as a member of a team in the assessment of visually impaired students, determine educational needs, and develop goals and objectives in cooperation with the IEP team. ● Work in cooperation with the interdisciplinary team to implement the IEP/IFSP specific to the student's needs, and provide direct instruction to visually impaired students. ● Provide information to the Special Education Coordinator regarding incidence, staff needs, training needs, and equipment needs relative to the visually impaired population. ● Provide for staff development, which may include sessions for teachers, parents, students, and administrators and will be tailored to meet specific identified needs. ● Case management duties of visually impaired students, maintenance of records, including IEP support, materials, acquisition of adaptive equipment, and interagency contacts. ● Act as a liaison between State Services for the Blind, parents, students, and staff. ● Participate and assist in public awareness activities, regional low-incidence meetings, student activities, and other special projects. ● Other appropriate duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
