Project Engineer focuses on the technical aspects of a project. Primary responsibility is to assist the Project Manager with the planning and daily execution of the construction project. 

 

Position Summary

 

Generally, the responsibilities involve maintaining certain aspects of the project schedule as assigned by the Project Manager with goals and objectives as follows:

  • Assist the Project Manager in overseeing construction progress and scheduling.
  • Ensure project timelines are met and deliverables are completed on time and within budget; adjust timelines as necessary.
  • Ensure the project is within budget constraints; identify areas for cost savings without sacrificing quality.
  • Manage the process of submittal approvals.
  • Coordinate the timely delivery of materials, maintaining schedules and budgets.
  • Initiate set-up of the job management system.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements including safety regulations.
  • Allocate resources effectively across the project team.
  • Develop strong relationships with clients/customers, vendors and suppliers.

 

Essential Functions

  • Monitor construction activities for compliance with contract terms and work with subcontractor personnel to promote safe and effective site operations.
  • Assists Project Manager by proactively managing the project budget by controlling expenses, administering owner and subcontractor billings, identifying work not covered by subcontractor’s scope of work and budget.
  • Execute procurements and contract administration of construction site services and utilities; assists in the development of the site utilization plan; initiates the building permit process.
  • Continuously review project goals and objectives and develop contingency plans for unexpected events; use data analysis to improve project outcomes; track progress against key performance indicators; identify potential roadblocks early and work proactively to avoid them.
  • Develop strategies for optimizing resource utilization; facilitate alignment among stakeholders on project objectives, timelines, budgets, etc.; conduct regular audits on project activities to ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Responsible for proactive administration of submittals; including reviewing and processing submittal data, developing submittal log, communicating, and coordinating submittals and coordination drawings with subcontractors and the Superintendent; create and maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Assists Project Manager and/or the Superintendent in the review and coordination of the Loss Prevention and Quality Control Program; conduct quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with established guidelines; serve as the onsite quality manager for assigned trades by verifying subcontractor deliveries meet approved submittal requirements.
  • Assists with the scopes of work, bid package development and help solicit subcontractors and suppliers; assists in evaluating contractor bids; includes conducting preconstruction meetings with subcontractors, assisted by the Project Manager and/or Superintendent; includes actively participating in subcontractor project orientation.
  • Distributes proposal change documents to subcontractors/suppliers and assists in collecting pricing and/or prepares change proposal requests for internal pricing review.
  • Ensures all clarifications, changes, directives, RFIs, etc., are updated on the “as-built” drawings and are fully coordinated with company supervision and all subcontractor and suppliers.
  • Continuously seek ways to increase efficiency without sacrificing quality or safety measures; includes continuously seek feedback from team members and stakeholders to improve processes and procedures; drive continuous improvement efforts within the organization; evaluate the effectiveness of existing processes and procedures and identify opportunities for process improvements and develop plans to streamline project workflows.
  • Recognize, report, and solve problems in a creative, positive, and constructive way; manage competing priorities and allocate resources effectively to meet project deadlines without compromising on quality or safety measures; respond quickly to unforeseen circumstances or changes in project scope or requirements; encourage an innovative approach among the team members for enhancing project outcomes; monitor the implementation of work processes, standards, and policies to minimize inefficiencies.
  • Attends and participates in meetings with Architect/Engineer and owner representatives, provides information and assists the Project Manager in the preparation of progress reports/meeting minutes; leverage technology platforms to improve collaboration, communication, and information sharing across the project team.
  • Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer’s expectations; manage vendor relationships and contacts; communicate effectively with customers and clients and ensure pertinent information is communicated to all project team members and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
  • Responsible for submitting owner required close-out documents and assist subcontractors and suppliers in scheduling owner required training and documentation; provide any additional support required for successful completion of the project.

 

Education, Experience and Knowledge

  • B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field position. Entry level graduate up to 2 years of experience preferred, or 2 to 4 years of progressive construction related trade experience.
  • Organizes people, tools, and equipment and plan/manage multiple activities to accomplish desired results.
  • Makes decisions under tight deadlines, sometimes with incomplete information.
  • Exhibits commitment to quality by evaluating project-related processes and make necessary changes, using customer input to make improvements, and meeting/exceeding internal and external customer expectations.
  • Acts in a manner of integrity that demonstrates support for the company values and the employees, while maintaining constant focus on meeting/exceeding customer requirements and expectations.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
