Position Overview:
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for creating and implementing an engaging, developmentally appropriate curriculum that supports the growth of all learners in an inclusive classroom setting. This role requires leadership in fostering a collaborative teaching environment, coaching caregivers, and working alongside a multidisciplinary team of educators and therapists to ensure each child thrives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead an inclusive classroom serving children of diverse learning styles, ages 2-5 years.
- Design and implement a curriculum that promotes social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
- Foster a collaborative and engaging classroom environment where all children feel supported and empowered.
- Conduct individualized assessments to track developmental progress and tailor learning experiences accordingly.
- Provide ongoing coaching and support to caregivers, ensuring alignment between classroom and home learning strategies.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and Behavioral Specialists to optimize student outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with licensing, safety, and health regulations, maintaining an enriching and safe learning space.
- Actively participate in professional development opportunities, staying up-to-date on best practices in early childhood and inclusive education.
- Write progress reports using person-first language and maintain open communication with families about their child's development.
- Supervise and mentor assistant teachers to maintain classroom excellence and consistency.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree required in Early Childhood Development, Special Education, or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of classroom leadership experience, preferably in an inclusive or early intervention setting.
- Strong understanding of child development principles, including best practices for supporting diverse learning needs.
- Experience conducting developmental assessments and writing progress reports.
- Passion for fostering an inclusive and collaborative learning environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Must pass a TB test, criminal background check, and maintain current First Aid and CPR certification.
- California Special Education credential or comparable certification preferred.
