COMPENSATION: $80-90 per hour

START DATE: Summer or Fall 2025

LOCATION: 122 Old Ayer Road, Groton, MA

Groton Hill Music Center is the region's premier nonprofit center for outstanding music education, professional performances, and community engagement programs. Our Music School offers lessons in 30+ instruments and voice for all ages in all musical styles with a faculty of 100+ professional teaching artists. This role involves leading a 70+ member adult choir that sings contemporary / rock / pop music in weekly rehearsals, plus performances at least twice per year, with a professional backing band.

PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Our Rock Choir Director will help continue to build this new and exciting program at Groton Hill. The Rock Choir started in fall of 2024 and currently has more than 70 members, rehearsing on Wednesday evenings at 7:15pm in our beautiful 307-seat Meadow Hall. The choir performs in our 1,039-seat Concert Hall approximately twice per year, backed by a full professional rhythm section.

Groton Hill is seeking a leader to continue the rapid musical and participatory growth of this ensemble. The ability to inspire and instruct students while demonstrating strong vocal technique is required. Piano or guitar skills for rehearsals are also recommended; an accompanist and rhythm section will be a part of performances and dress rehearsals. Teaching a group class or private lessons at Groton Hill is also a possibility, depending on mutual interest.

Groton Hill Music School faculty members are responsible for: 1) inspiring and sharing their love of music with their students; 2) setting a high bar for students’ levels of technical skill and musicality; 3) clearly communicating expectations and working toward shared goals; and 4) advocating for their students to engage in additional Groton Hill programs and special events to deepen their musical development.

Groton Hill’s robust administrative team performs a wide variety of key functions for faculty, including scheduling, billing, collections, and piano tuning and equipment maintenance. We also promote all of our programs through a dedicated and multi-faceted ongoing digital marketing campaign.

Groton Hill offers many ancillary benefits to our faculty members, including a variety of paid professional performance opportunities and funding for professional development (by application). Regular weekly teaching throughout the school year is required as is attendance at an annual fall faculty meeting and the completion of occasional clerical tasks. Timeliness and reliability, as well as strong communication practices with both students/families and school staff, are essential.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ideal candidates should have a degree in music as well as relevant teaching and/or choral direction experience and a thorough knowledge of contemporary music.

HOW TO APPLY:

Please submit a cover letter, resume, and references ASAP to Lauren Panfili, Class & Ensemble Manager, at lpanfili@grotonhill.org. Submissions without a cover letter will not be considered.
