Qualifications
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting.
Duties
Performs as a trainee, applying the basic principles and practices of professional accounting work. · Becomes familiar with the systems, practices, procedures, work processes, regulations, operations, structure and other aspects of the fiscal program of the assigned department.
- Performs routine assignments, under close supervision and guidance, for purpose of gaining knowledge and developing skills in the practical application of accounting principles, procedures and techniques. Learns to prepare worksheets, financial reports, exhibits, and statements.
- Learns to use the specific procedures of automated systems to find, review, or change accounting data in transaction files, ledgers, accounts, summary reports and financial statements.
- Reviews data and compares reports or transactions to source documents or authorizations against transactions to ensure their acceptability for further processing. Learns to identify and correct errors.
- Compiles, tabulates and evaluates fiscal information. Maintains ledgers and other fiscal records.
Additional salary info
After satisfactory completion of a year of experience, position to be promoted to an Accountant II with increased pay and then up to an Accountant III after an additional year of experience and satisfactory performance.
