About the Division:
The primary function of the Washington State Patrol Training Division is to provide world class training to trooper cadets, who ultimately become fully commissioned troopers serving the citizens of Washington State. The division also provides various annual training to fully Commissioned Officers, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers, and Communications Officers.
As a Cook 2 you will be performing skilled culinary duties and lead food preparation to provide high quality nutritious meals to our students at the WSP Academy, while simultaneously ensuring all Washington State Food Codes are being followed. The position prepares meals and baked goods for breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. It also helps with open houses, award ceremonies, and other special events.
Duties
Primary Duties:
- Prepare meals in large scale food service operation, supporting the goals of the WSP Training Division.
- Wash dishes in large scale food service operation and clean kitchen and dining area before and after meals.
- Safely operate and clean large scale kitchen and kitchen equipment.
Shifts:
This position is Overtime Eligible and may work one of two shifts: 5 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. - OR - 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday AND 5:00am - 1:00pm Friday.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
- Must be able to lift, push and pull 50 pounds or more; work in hot humid areas; occasionally work a 13-hour day; work most of a shift in a standing position.
- Demonstrate the ability to work closely with others or work alone to achieve a common goal.
- Demonstrate the ability to manage time, meet timelines and adjust to fluctuating student counts.
- Demonstrate the ability to interact with consumers in a professional and courteous manner.
- Demonstrate the ability to operate and clean all kitchen tools and equipment safely and properly.
- Demonstrate the ability to follow all safety guidelines to avoid risk of injury.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
- One year of paid professional cooking/baking experience OR successful completion of a course in large-scale cooking.
- Experience converting recipes to be served in a large-scale foodservice establishment.
- Experience in grocery/supply procurement, receiving, stocking, and/or taking inventories.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of large-scale food service general practices, methods, and procedures pertaining to operations such as food preparation, heating and cooling, storage, sanitation, and safety.
- Current Washington State Food and Beverage Workers Permit or will be required to obtain one within 14 days of employment.
