Program Specialist 2-Library Circulation Manager
Whatcom Community College invites applications for a Program Specialist 2-Library Circulation Manager (Class Code 107I) position. Reporting to the Library Director, this individual works collaboratively to manage library circulation desk; engage and inform employees of all library services and programs; and work with students to connect them to library/learning common resources. Additionally, this individual will be responsible to collecting overdue material and working with other college offices to coordinate services. Further, this person will represent the library on the Whatcom Libraries Collaborate group. Excellent customer service is critical to be successful in this position. Must be able to interact with difficult patrons in an effective manner.
Responsibilities
May include, but are not limited to:
- Provide information and technical assistance to patrons regarding library services and programs.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate circulation desk operations, including hiring and training part-time hourly and work study students.
- Troubleshoot copy machines and assist patrons with computer task. Consults with I.T. on complex computing issues.
- Liaise with the Bellingham Public Library courier service.
- Liaise with the Registrar and Business office to reconcile student and faculty library accounts.
- Monitor and report program activities and participates in continuous improvement efforts.
- Work regularly with the Systems Librarian and technical services to inform circulation and other workflows in the Library Services Platform.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse employees and students. Works closely and collaboratively with other employees in the Learning Commons. Communicate effectively, courteously, and tactfully, providing accurate information to patrons and colleagues.
- Must be able to move full book trucks (occasionally between buildings) and organize, in a very short period of time large quantities of books and other instructional material. Must be able to shelve/retrieve library material on floor/high level shelves and move sandwich boards and other sign stands as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree.
- 2 years' experience in the functional operations of a library including one year beyond the entry level.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and familiar with a Library Service Platform, e.g., Ex Libris Alma/Primo.
OR equivalent combination of education/experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a community college/higher education work environment.
- Bi-lingual Spanish-English.
Salary
Salary:
- This is a full-time, classified, WFSE (Washington Federation of State Employees) represented position. Salary is Range 42, starting at Step C, $3,811.00 per month with periodic increments to $4,740.00 per month.
- This position not eligible for remote work.
