Field Engineer
NOT A REMOTE POSITION - MUST RESIDE IN OR RELOCATE TO THE COLUMBIA, SC AREA
Education:
An Associate's degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent Military Electronics Training is required. Strong proficiency in the use of computer and Microsoft applications is essential. Previous experience in a similar industry with a minimum 3 years experience is highly desired.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Engineer's duties and responsibilities include technical product support for our real-time, high speed railway track measurement systems, steel measurement systems and service. The engineer performs installation, troubleshooting and repair of electrical, mechanical, or computer assemblies and systems. The work would include troubleshooting issues to determine root cause failure using drawings, schematics and wire diagrams. The engineer will recommend and implement a corrective action. The engineer will be able to assemble and test components, cables and subassemblies using drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams and test equipment.
Qualifications Required:
- The successful candidate must be able to perform work safely in all environments.
- Must work independently at customer sites troubleshooting and resolving system issues.
- Perform analysis of data in the diagnosis of system sensors.
- Must be enthusiastic, positive, and self-motivated.
- Ability to work well with customers conducting business in a professional manner.
- Requires physical activity including walking, stooping, lifting, and bending.
- Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in the use of hand tools for assembly, adjustment, and repair of mechanical system components.
- Ability to operate oscilloscopes, meters, signal generators, and power supplies during the testing process.
- Requires both Domestic and International travel.
- Active role in company Continuous Improvement and Quality Assurance objectives.
Qualifications Desired:
- Knowledge of PLC controllers and programming.
- Soldering training or certification
- Cable fabrication experience including Coaxial, Cat6, D-sub and Mil-spec connectors
- Experience in railroad test and inspection services
- Experience with acquisition sensors
- Experience in the use of laser technology
