Assistant Director, Residence Life - FT

Under the general direction and supervision of the Campus Dean of Students and the Administrative Director of Residence Life, the Assistant Director of Residence Life directs the day-to-day operations of the campus residence halls. This position advises and supervises student programming in the residence halls, ensures the safety and welfare of all residents, and enforces all residence hall policies and procedures in accordance with College policy. This is a twelve-month, 260-day live-in position, with an unfurnished apartment provided. Hours of work will be arranged on a 40-hour workweek for this full-time, regular position. Evening, overnight, and weekend student supervision are regular parts of the job.

Essential Functions


Assist in Developing Housing Policies:

  1. Assists in developing and implementing housing policies and procedures consistent with College policy under the guidance of the Administrative Director of Residence Life.

Policy Enforcement:

  1. Enforces established policies and procedures equitably and fairly.
  2. Serves as an intermediary between students, resident assistants, and administration.

Supervises Resident Assistants:

  1. Interview, select, evaluate, and directly supervise the work of the Resident Assistants in conjunction with the Residence Life Coordinator.
  2. Conducts in-service training for Resident Assistants.

 Provides Residence Life Programming:

  1. In cooperation with the Residence Life Coordinator and the Resident Assistants, plan, organize, prepare, and implement residence life programming options that foster academic, social, cultural, and personal growth.
  2. Coordinate programming options with the Student Life Coordinator and plan activities through the campus Prevention Programming Team.
  3. Evaluate the success of programming through co-curricular assessment tools.

Coordinates and Supervises Room Inspections:

  1. Supervise and/or conduct routine inspections of all rooms and apartments for safety, health, and welfare.

Maintains Student Files:

  1. Maintains student files.
  2. Reports student status to the Dean of Students and the Business Office.

Maintenance and Upkeep:

  1. In cooperation with the campus maintenance department, ensure that the housing facilities and equipment are maintained in operational condition.

Monitors Residence Security:

  1. In cooperation with the Campus Safety & Security Coordinator and the security company, ensure that overall security measures are maintained.
  2. Continuously evaluates and alters student safety and security measures, if and when needed.
  3. Ensures that an accurate inventory of keys is available and current. Ensures buildings are secure.

Supervises Check-In and Check-Out:

  1. Checks new students into student housing each term.
  2. Checks graduates and students leaving student housing at the end of each term.

Manage Residence Life Budget:

  1. Utilize an annual budget to monitor expenditures throughout the year, and to work within the budget with the guidance of the Administrative Director – Residence Life.

Student Housing Tours/Marketing:

  1. Assists with showing rooms to prospective students for tours and special events.
  2. In collaboration with Public Information and the Administrative Director of Residence Life, develop promotional materials to encourage students to live on campus.
  3. Work with Admissions staff to disseminate information to prospective students.

Public Relations:

  1. Maintains good public relations with the college community and the community by keeping them apprised of student activities.
  2. Encouraged to participate in community organizations.

Coordinates and Performs Other Functions as Requested

  1.  Organizes, plans, and implements other functions as assigned by the Administrative Director of Residence Life or the Dean of Students.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Associate’s degree in psychology, sociology, education, counseling, social work, human development, or a related field. Experience working in Residence Life or in a residence hall setting can be substituted for one year of an Associate’s degree.
  2. One (1) year of experience working with students in a college environment, social/human services, education, marketing, or similar occupations where the ability to work with people is important.
  3. Six (6) months of experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity, either in paid employment or in a volunteer capacity.

Salary

$41,642 per year

Benefits

SCC BEN Dollars – Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee’s paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College’s contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan – Group Retirement Account (GRA).

Schedule

Normal working hours for this full-time regular, live-in position, are scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday requiring a minimum of a 40-hour work week, based on a 260-day work calendar. Evening, overnight, and weekend student supervision is a regular part of the job. Special projects and assignments and troubleshooting may require evening and weekend work as needed.

The incumbent will be required to live in the residence hall for 12 months per year, have ‘on-call’ responsibilities, and will be required to respond to emergencies and other situations during and after normal business hours. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek. An unfurnished apartment is provided.
