Lead Registered School Nurse
Buffalo Hearing & Speech is seeking a full time Lead Registered School Nurse. The school nurse is responsible for the general care, welfare and safety of our preschool children and staff as well as maintaining health records and disseminating medical information. This position will work year-round Monday - Friday, for a total of 35 hours/week.
Job Summary: The lead registered nurse of school health services is responsible the oversight and management of the school nurse program. The lead registered nurse will provide technical assistance to the agency to implement sound health care plans and practices as determined by regulatory agencies under which BHSC operates.
Essential Functions:
- Oversees the day to day operations of the onsite nursing staff and staff qualifications to ensure that program meets OCFS, Medication Administration standards and regulatory standards under NYSDOH, OSHA, CDC and other regulatory agencies.
- Review, update and sign OCFS site Health Care Plans and conducts on-site reviews of programs at least once in every licensing / registration period to monitor implementation of health plans.
- Works with the nursing staff to ensure Individual Health Care Plans for students are up to date and completed prior to a child entering into our program or within 1 week of child’s entry.
- Ensure that the nursing staff is communicating the required HCP information with classroom team(s) as required. Review children’s individual HCP’s on a quarterly basis.
- Provides one-to-one technical assistance and consultation to the nursing staff and providers on child care health issues by telephone, in-person and on site.
- Responds to incoming child care health questions from providers, parents, health providers, licensors and registrars, as necessary.
- Presents health training workshops that meet the diverse needs of the agency, including writing curricula, developing training materials, teaching classes, and evaluating and improving delivery of these services.
- Stays current with research, regulations and best practice in the early childhood and health field, as it relates to BHSC.
- Is knowledgeable of community resources to which providers and parents can be referred for additional services and support.
- Review and report situation/accident reports for all students to the Professional Board for student injuries.
- Serves as a member or appoints a member of the nursing staff to the Emergency Response Team and the Safety and Wellness Committees.
- Conduct or appoints a member of the nursing staff to provide First Aid/CPR Training for BHSC employees
- Prepare and deliver OHSA and HIPPA in-services/presentation for new employees and annually for all staff as needed.
- Review and post all relevant information from the NYSDOH and the CDC.
- Performs these responsibilities with the understanding that responsibilities and tasks may be modified or expanded over time.

Education:
Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university
Required License/ Registration/ Certification:
- NYS Registered Nursing Licensure
