Lead Line Cook/Assistant Savory Manager

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled culinarian to join our savory team, assisting the Managing Savory Chef. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and a commitment to delivering high-quality sandwiches, salads, and soups in a fast-paced environment. The individual will play a crucial role, ensuring that the food our guests receive is of exceptional quality. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to food safety standards, creativity and the ability to work collaboratively within the kitchen. The ideal candidates will thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment and take pride in preparing food that reflects our commitment to quality, local sourcing, and creativity.

Duties

  • Prepare menu items according to established recipes and standards.
  • Ensure that all food is prepared to the highest quality and in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of kitchen station.
  • Maintain workspace cleanliness and organization, adhering to food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during service.
  • Assist with inventory management, including receiving and storing deliveries.
  • Lead the department in the Manager's absence.

  • Previous experience as a lead line cook or similar role in a high-volume kitchen, minimum of one year but more will be an advantage
  • Early mornings - as early as 5:30AM until as late as 5PM. This is not a shift, rather it's the window within which shifts fall, so staff must be willing to work within this window
  • Open availability Mon-Sat. Staff does not work Mon-Sat, rather this is the window staff must be available to be scheduled. This means no "I need every (fill in the day) off"
  • Must be able to commit to working every Saturday, occasional holidays, and frequent day-before and day-after holiday. For example, availability is required for the days before & after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, day after Christmas, etc.
  • Must be able to commit to a long-term role; that is, a commitment to stay a year or longer. Non-enforceable of course, but we trust the candidate will make a good faith commitment
  • Must be open to training and to a friendly-but-firm "yes chef" approach
  • A record of reliability in past positions (we will check!)

The Baker and the Cakemaker is a locally owned artisan bread bakery and café offering fresh, locally-sourced farm-to-fork products, artisan breads, pastries and cakes. We are committed to promoting from within, from entry level up to management.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.50 per hour

Expected hours: 38 – 42 per week
