What I liked

My department was full of great people, and we formed a family. We always had fun together, while getting our work done. I learned so much from the experience. There are so many life skills that I will carry, such as measuring out a kitchen and having in depth knowledge of washing machines and dryers. I have made life-long friends, and gained experiences that I will never forget.

What I wish was different

We were short-staffed a majority of the time.

Advice

It takes a lot of training, but once you get the hang of it, the procedures become second nature.

Cashier

April 2018 • De Pere, WI

What I liked

I love the work atmosphere. Even though work days can get long my coworkers have a good attitude. The environment allowed for continuous learning and growth from each other. There are employees all at various levels of service to company, which means that everyone has different knowledge/experience to share. I also enjoy the open relationships I have with front-end management and store management. I feel confident that if I have an issue/concern/idea to share that I will be listened to and heard.

What I wish was different

The only improvement I can think of would be a more efficient unloading area of products for customers. At the De Pere store we have very limited counter space for customers or cashiers to unload products. I feel like having more space would allow for more efficiency in the checkout process.

Advice

Be open to and vocal about learning opportunities. Once my supervisors new that I wanted to learn additional tasks/roles they were willing to help me learn more. It's good to be open to these opportunities too, as each new role/task will have new processes and procedures to learn.

What I liked

I enjoy the interactions with my fellow coworker. We had a lot of fun working together and I gained valuable experience with personal skills and communication.

What I wish was different

I wish the scheduling had been a bit more flexible and transparent. The system and timeframe to request off certain days was not as simple as it could've been.

Advice

This was a summer job to gain some extra money over the summer. If you want a fun, casual job over the summer with kind managers and coworkers, this is a good place to work.

Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Bloomington, IN

What I liked

I liked gaining hands-on experience with their management team there as well as networking with other departments as well as learning new aspects of customer service.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had gotten to do more internship projects instead of simply working in my department with that set management team and not with other leaders of the company as a whole.

Advice

I would say that the Menards corporation has a strong history and reputation and I would recommend it to anyone who is either wanting to work there or simply wanting to test out their products.

I liked associating myself with customer and helping other people out. While I’m doing this I can help the company make money by selling the whole project to the customer.

Advice

If you were to work as a sales associate you need to have tough skin because there will be those customers once in a while who cuss you out and give you a lot of attitude.

Sales Team Member

May 2019 • Burlington, WI

What I liked

I liked the fact that I got to learn a lot about the inter workings of a home. My major being architecture, I was interested to learn and see how plumbing works and what choices a homeowner can make to save money in their household.

What I wish was different

I wish the male customers would treat the female employees better because I had a lot of issues were men didn't think I knew what I was talking about.

Advice

I would say Menard's is a great place to start learning about being a homeowner (or renting an apartment, condo, duplex, etc.) because at some point everyone will have one of those and need to know how to fix thinks and problem solve in your own home.
